What's new in Tachi Code v1.11.0?

This release cuts down on tab clutter. Content you send to Tachi Code from the context menu, the toolbar popup, or Open in Tachi Code now lands in the editor tab you already have open instead of a new browser tab. It also adds a context menu action for opening any image on a page in the image viewer, and fixes several cases where images opened broken or not at all.

Open content in an existing Tachi Code tab

Section titled “Open content in an existing Tachi Code tab”

Context menu actions, Open in Tachi Code, and settings links now open in the Tachi Code tab you used most recently, instead of opening a new browser tab every time.

The new browserExtension.openContentIn setting, under Browser Extension > General, controls where content opens:

  • Existing Tab (default) opens in the most recently focused Tachi Code tab, switching windows if needed.
  • Existing Tab in Current Window opens in the most recently focused Tachi Code tab in the current window, or a new tab if there isn’t one.
  • New Tab always opens a new Tachi Code browser tab, as in earlier versions.

Editors embedded in web pages are never reused. Opening a settings link while the settings editor is already open reuses it and runs the new search there.

New File in the toolbar popup follows the same setting and adds an untitled file to your existing Tachi Code tab. When you do want a separate editor, choose New Editor from the editor’s main menu.

Right-click any image on a web page and choose Open Image in Tachi Code to open it in the image viewer. This works for regular image URLs, inline data: images, and blob: images created by the page.

You can hide the action with the browserExtension.serviceWorker.contextMenuActions setting.

  • Navigating directly to an image URL no longer opens it in the image viewer by default. Turn on browserExtension.contentScript.autoInject.images to bring that behavior back. The Open in Tachi Code keyboard shortcut opens the image in the image viewer whether or not the setting is on.
  • The Open Selection in Tachi Code context menu action is now called View Element Source, which better describes what it does. If you had turned it off, it stays off.
  • Fixed raw images on GitHub opening as garbled text in the code editor.
  • Fixed images created by a page (blob: URLs) opening as a broken image.
  • Fixed percent-encoded data: images stopping the editor from starting.
  • Fixed the editor hanging on startup when the browser’s IndexedDB storage couldn’t be opened. Tachi Code now shows a notification and continues without restoring previously opened folders.
  • Fixed tokens that combine font styles, such as bold italic or underline with strikethrough, rendering without their theme color or styles.
